Any $1000 laptop could run TF2/Minecraft on high. Alienware has good specs, but yes they are overpriced -- they're like the Macs of the Windows world. Same specs on two separate machines would cost more just for the Mac or Alienware label.
I would recommend a Sony Vaio, Toshiba Satellite, or Acer Aspire (is what I use now; but it's not as gaming-oriented as the two aforementioned).
That is assuming Vaios and Satellites are cheaper than Alienware. I know Vaio is brand new expensive as well. IDR what Satellites cost. Worth looking into though; you may be able to find a better machine for cheaper.

no, don't even think of buying anything related to alienware. they're basically hyped up pieces of shit with select components and added mechanical keyboards that have leds in them, mechanical keyboards aren't even supposed to be on laptops; they're meant for desktops. if you damage they keyboard on the laptop it'll be very pricey to replace, same goes for any other components.
you could get a decent desktop for at least 700 dollars with MUCH better performance against those piles of shit. if you don't like desktops then just go for a decent one that won't break the bank. (less than 1000)
decent specifications for a laptop in my opinion:
for the processor go for an intel core i5 or i7, don't go for i3 they're basically the same as core 2 duos with slightly better performance
dedicated graphics processing unit like ati or more preferred, nvidia. any quadro series or nvidia gt/x 500M+
4-8gb's of random access memory, anything more is silly for a laptop
as for storage, that'd be your choiceLast edited by Butts; 04 Nov. 2014 at 12:13am.

Of course desktops are cheaper, but sometimes a laptop is non-negotiable. I take mine trk with me on the daily. And on vacations. I use it in bed instead of on a desk. Fuck desktops.
Hella cheaper but not acceptable.

Yeah, I need to buy a lapdesk, one of those USB fan things to keep it cool while gaming. It's not so bad by itself, but the fact that it sits on blankets that block/absorb ventilation heat, no bueno.
