Why VB/C#?

Whats the benefit of using these programming languages over others? Any particular reason?

Loose syntax for beginners, really hard to mess up, easier than C++ because they don't explicitly use pointers.

I guess those are some valid points, but it also depends on the person and how easy it is for them to understand the material.

+ Most examples for this type of community are in VB already.
