I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I found it the most appropriate place to put it. (If not, please move it)
Here is my problem: I am on the administrator/owner account of my computer, but some of my files are locked. (I can open them from the side bar on the very left of the windows, but if I go to my documents, and try opening my pictures or music folder or something, I get an alert saying "Access Denied".
On top of that, I require administrator privileges to run a few things. I tried running my computer in every safe mode (regular, with networking, etc.) And I'm still getting "Access Denied". How can I fix this?
SYSTEM INFO:
OS: Windows 7
Administrator/Owner: Yes

This is the wrong place, but:
Right click the file or folder that denies access. Click Properties.
The fix will always be under Properties, no matter the version of your OS. But since I'm on Windows 7 right now, I can't look up what the fix would be for XP (and you didn't mention your OS), so I'm going to tell you how to possibly fix it in 7. If you're using XP, look around Properties for something that looks similar.
Click Security. Click your Windows username (i.e. C:\Users\YOURNAME\). In the "Permissions for YOURNAME" block at the bottom of the window, set everything to Allow. Also make sure that the permissions for "SYSTEM" and "Administrators" have everything set to Allow, too. (It's okay if Special Permissions has nothing set.) You may need to click Advanced to make sure other permissions are set to Allow as well, but that probably won't be an issue.
EDIT:
Also, run virus scan.

So am I right in assuming that he wasn't actually admin?
- 21 Feb. 2010 10:41pm #10
No she was an admin she just hadn't set her setting right, so that the admin actually has administrative control...
His / Her account wasn't permitted to access certain parts of the "C:", so in Win 7 you have to tell it to give you full "Read & Write" access...
There was also a shortcut error... (The old shortcuts weren't taking her to the right place, giving her the error... Which I think is all fixed now...)
Simple stuff... ^^
