I mean. If you guys will remember, I made a Pokemon engine. I already have it. And I tried using it, and even contacted Nintendo about it. They don't license third parties to their copyrighted material without past above average histories of publications.
That's why.
Also the Chao system even supports Pokemon-style evolutions if there were "Fakemon" to use.
It wouldn't be a full Pokemon system. But I could make it support types (fire, water, etc., etc.) and battles where each stat refers to a different attack that levels with how high that stat is. But you wouldn't get to choose what the abilities are. Although I think it I can still make it super fun if I balance them well enough.
But why this isn't a thing -- I don't have the rights to use any Pokemon sprites.

Yeah.
I have a rough sketch for the race algorithm drawn out on my whiteboard. But it mostly comes down to time to implement it.
Karate will be easy, so it's probably what I'll do first. But animations for fights probably won't be in the first release. I'd probably release a text version for whoever wanted to beta test it, and just so you guys would have some more stuff to do. Then add graphics after I make sure there's a good enough set of animations for it.
Races will definitely be second and follow the same pattern, with text to graphics.

They will be sellable, yeah. But probably not until after I start adding promo items that will be worth selling.
