You could just download an Emulator for a DS if you don't actually want to buy one.
If you do though, you should either get a 3DS or a DSi. A DSi plays fairly new games and all of the old ones. A 3DS plays all of the newest games in 3D, and all of the old ones, though it's around $70 more than a DSi. If you want to be set until the next DS comes out, though, or if you're looking forward to newer DS games such as the new pokemon games, I recommend getting a 3DS.

You ******s, nothing is equal to actually holding a DS.
Coffin, get a DS, get an R4.
Infinite free games, on an actual handheld. win/win
Disco is neat.
