Do something worthwhile, like breeding or trading at the GTC or trying to get 99 of every item. The new GTC supports submitting Pokemon photos (Fashion Case) to GTC, along with battle videos. Make those, submit them.
Raise a Pokemon so strong that you can beat the entire Elite Four with just him. Catch every Unown. Mimic Red's team.

Regarding shiny Pokemon: Most of them are ugly as a shiny, anyway.
