I'm thinking about installing servers again. My main gaming rig can't anymore due to power supply hiccups.
Modded and bukkit. Maybe starbound and starmade too.
What kinds of shit would you think people would like to see?

I Have extra Desktops(2)

How many servers can a "spare desktop" run, I wonder?
- 30 Apr. 2014 08:54pm #3
Well my main ran up to 6 ever in history, but usually ran 3-4.
I suppose it depends on how much ram each System had and what servers would need more, but right now my main has 32GB and the spares have one 8gb stick each.
So reserving 2 GB for memory leak emergencies, 2-3 servers each system should run fine.

There are probably more Minecraft players than others here. Not many non-browser-based PC gamers; or at least not enough to warrant a server, to my knowledge.
I've always thought a Terraria server would be nice, but I don't think anyone here plays it.
I suppose I'd recommend whatever game you would play. Active server moderation is a necessary precursor to public activity; so whatever servers you'd actually be in to participate with will probably draw the most activity.
And whatever is set up, I'll try to drop in. I assume I'll already have whatever game it is, but if not, I may be able to pick it up.

Activity is a given, but Bukkit's what I usually do but the set up varies update to update. Modpacks are foreign to me as far as hosting. Either way, I'm simpleminded enough to entertain myself with most anything. I just...need to branch out and would rather experiment where other's give a shit about playing.
I'm flexible as long as it's not dumb and we don't have the beekeeper mod. I get way too obsessed with breeding stats and making the perfect queen bee. Simpleminded.
Terraria's good too, but like you said, its hard to find a crowd for it. Even I drifted to starbound servers run off my laptop and have yet to return.

So I've got a version up now that's pretty much done. If you'd like to take a look you can join the IP 'mc.harshcraft.net'

What are the pros/cons, possibilities/impossibilities of pirated copies of Minecraft connecting to it?

I think I saw you in the players list, king! I was wonder who that was. Welcome.
uh, pros and cons of cracking my server...uh. Or do you mean hacked premium accounts? Cracking isn't so much pirating it...more of a Exploitation of the free version. You don't download anything different last time I checked.
Pros: I set one true value to false.
More people can join.
Cons: I lose account security. Anyone can login as anyone.
I lose bukkit support
Glizer plugin will lock because they actually care about this shit.
Noobs. Cheap ass Noobs everywhere.

I'm just curious if it's possible for LG users who pirated the game to play.
- 31 May. 2014 01:28pm #11
If you wanted to create a server with pirated versions you could create a whitelist and post a thread here asking everyone for their usernames. That way only LG people could play on the server. Maybe run a plugin that logs a player's IP on their first login and checks it with each login as to prevent players from using other people's usernames.

My server is done on 1.7.2, down to most every detail. Me and mine are working on updating/replacing everything we can to the beta 1.7.9 jar that was released just a week ago about. We are about 50% done. The LG server will be an almost direct clone of this and will be open whenever I
And fluxo, yeah that's somewhat how I plan on doing it. I am currently writing a plugin that allows anyone on the server to add any other person to the whitelist. Their rank on the server would determine *how many* people they can invite (my current thorn). This makes it so anyone in LG can join, but its not super exclusive (and therefore dead) and anyone on LG can play with non LG friends in they invited them, but random ass strangers outside of our direct web relations or contacts can't get in.
Can be abused, but hey, we have plugins for block logging and banishment for a reason. The IP checker is a no-go as i know multiple siblings who play, yet share an IP. I like my spiderweb idea. messy, but higherups should be able to manage it easy with the small crowds we'll be getting.
Fluxo, You play? Whats your username?
