GONNA MAKE A VIDEO TUTORIALTOMORROW NIGHTSOON
The EATS (Ethos Advanced Transportation System) was a concept originally designed by Etho. In my opinion, this system is the most efficient method of traveling across a minecraft world. His version of this system is as seen here. I have tried to duplicate this system but found trouble in the boat reloader so I've modified it slightly trk better. I will show you how to make a slightly modified version of the EATS.
Required items:
- Boats
- Cobblestone
- Stone Slab (Stepping Stone)
- Signs
- Torches
- Pressure Plates
- Doors
- Glass
- Ladders
- Water
- Redstone Dust
Once you have these materials we can get started.
Step 1.
The first thing we need is a flat space of land to start on. It needs to be level and cleared. It does not need to be too big.
Step 2.
Start by creating a 2x3 rectangle of cobblestone with a tail of 2x? stepping stones. At this point the length of the stepping stone tail can be as long as you'd like.
Step 3.
Create a wall parallel to the stones 2 blocks away from it, and 2 blocks high.
Step 4.
Start creating this pattern on the walls on the top block. This will be used as lighting and for tracking.
___
Step 5.
Repeat this pattern and keep creating walls until a point where you want the EATS to stop and reroute.
Step 6.
At every first ladder, create two pressure plates on the flat area below. This is to stop the water flow and can be replaced with signs if you're annoyed by the sound later on.
Step 7.
At every torch, create 2 blocks of water along the width as shown.
Step 8.
Dig out one block closest to the stepping stone tail, one block away from the beginning of the 2 block high wall as seen in the picture. Place a door there from the angle shown.
Step 9.
Create 2 pressure plates in front of the door and a ladder to the right of the door against the wall as shown. Also, create a water block next to the door so it is not flowing in any direction.
Step 10.
Create a small opening under the pressure plates making a 4x3 square (aside from the block below the door) as shown. Create the beginning of a redstone wiring on the block below the pressure plate as shown. Create a hook around so the final redstone wire is pointing at the block below the door.
Step 11.
At the end of the track, the final pattern should cut off the last torch and ladder leaving us with what we see below. Create 2 pressure plates and 2 doors in the locations as shown. Remember, the ladder furthest to the left is the last ladder in the pattern.
Step 12.
Place 4 stepping stones above the last water flow and add 2 glass blocks behind it as shown.
Step 13.
Create a hole on the other side of the wall so we can make a circuit connecting the further pressure plate to the 2 doors. Place a block diagonal beneath the block with the pressure plate on it, and lead the wiring both ways to the 2 doors.
Step 14.
This view is of the backside of what we see in step 12. This is from under the stepping stones we placed. Put a blank sign directly underneath the furthest stepping stone from my position in step 12. Also, create a ladder in the position as shown in the image to stop the water flow.
Step 15.
Create a 2x2 block whole that is 7 blocks deep where the top is the sign that we just placed.
Step 16.
Create a 6x2 block hole in the wall to the right from where the 2x2x7 hole ended. The result should be from the sign, a 2x2 hole, 7 blocks deep interconnected to a 6x2 block space moving to the right. This will be clarified in the next step.
Step 17.
Dig up 7 more blocks so we have a symmetrical hole. Each goes 2x2, 7 deep spaced 2 blocks from eachother (totaling a 6x2 space on the bottom). The height for the 6x2 space should be about 3 or 4 blocks high, it doesn't matter.
Step 18.
Create a 2x1 block hole on the wall of the left side of the hole.
Step 19.
2 blocks from the right side of the hole, create 2 pressure plates.
Step 20.
Fill the whole from step 18, with 2 blocks of water as shown.
Step 21.
The second 2x2x7 hole should have risen up exactly 2 blocks from the original hole at the surface. Create 2 water blocks at the position shown in the image.
Step 22.
Create a cradle of cobblestone and 3 glass blocks as shown.
Step 23.
Create a water flow as shown. This will be created by placing 2 water blocks in the back, then placing any solid block to the front left, then removing the left water block and then removing the solid block (post a reply for further explanation).
Note: The reason you dont see the glass blocks above the water is because I took this image afterwards as a test of a different more effective water flow.
Step 24.
Create the same layout as we did in steps 8 and above except in the opposite direction. You should end up with the EATS.

Please don't hesitate to post questions, since this isn't a video tutorial it's probably very confusing. I'll start making video tutorials if necessary. If you want a video tutorial for this, just tell me. I would have included more images but the maximum is 40...
