System Shock 2, Diablo 2, Rise of Nations, there are a ton of great PC games.

Well, I knew someone was going to have to say that. :p

DE2 is, on it's own merits, an excellent game. It simply doesn't compare to DE1, but few games really do.
You could probably get it cheap as fuck or torrent it. Worth the time, I'd say.

Well, they're similar in that they are both strategy titles, but not much else. Civ is turn-based and has a heavy emphasis on diplomacy, economy, and exploration as opposed to just straight-up combat. It's a difficult game to summarize, because it is so incredibly deep. You should give it a try sometime, and see if the gameplay style suits you. It might not, it's pretty fucking hardcore. :p
