Few questions:
Will I have to wipe my computer? (images, photoshop, GIMP, etc., will they be gone?)
How much space doe sit take, compared to XP?
How many common programs are not yet supported?

From what i know 7 supports way more than vista did, and if not there's always patches, maybe. But xp to 7 means wiping everything unfortunately. Which is why i'm sticking with XP for now D:
The shitty thing is vista to 7 doesn't wipe anything...

How much space doe sit take, compared to XP? - 16gb to 20gb depends on the edition you get ultimate is 20gb since it has more stuff to offer then the rest
How many common programs are not yet supported? - i'm running windows 7 right now and every single program i've put on it seems to run it perfectly with no problems your photoshop and GIMP will work perfectly fine and most likely every other program to
