Out of all my life of trick or treating ive never seen someone say "you know what i dont have any candy but here let me show u this cool magic trick" xDDDDDDD

That's how it originated. The kids say trick or treat, and you either give them a treat, or you try to scare the shit out of them. It's not as much a magic trick as it is you tricking them into being scared or trusting that your house would give candy when instead it gives nightmares.

But I suppose most parents were tired of their children have nightmares and everyone agreed to just give candy instead.
