Most of the time they dont check unless its a big job. But if you do get an interview be ready for questions about these jobs like why did you quit and what did you do at them. A couple friends of mine lied about their experiences and got jobs.

They might call them to verify. Usually just to ask if you were a shit employee or not. Nothing can happen from lying on an application, unless you sign a document saying that your application is honest. In which case they probably just retain the right to fire you. Or whatever the document that you signed says that they can do about it.
I don't think lying on an application is illegal in itself, though.
