Self-sustainment, then hopeful profit pools. Needs stability with minimal staff interaction, enough funds for advertisements to keep activity high and reward high-contributory members. I've always been a fan of automation and self-fueling machines as the most efficient structure systems [or indicative of success] for really anything, including social communication.

University. I am getting my degree in experimental psychology. I do research on human subjects. It's time consuming, but makes for a beautiful resumé.
My dad's philosophy is that if I don't have to get a job during university, I have more time to focus on keeping my grades up and participating in activities that are socially and intellectually beneficial. I guess it's working -- I have a 4.0 and am taking 3 extra hours of research.

Why do you say that? As someone in highschool I already want a job, and feel that by age 18 I should be moved out and supporting myself. I'm planning on going into computer security, a bit of programming on the side, and venture capital for extra money for cars and stuff. I plan on being 100% self-sufficient.

That's not typical, and it's also harder than it sounds both in this economy and the fact that a minimum wage job isn't going to be enough for you to move out and support yourself. And to get above a minimum wage job, you either have to have some above-average talents or a college education.
I plan on being 100% self-sufficient.

This.
Even a college education isn't going to be doing you a lot of good. I actually can't get a job because I'm not a wise investment. It would cost more to train me trk at McDonald's than they would get out of me, or at least that's how they see it. The only way to get a job in my field is to move to Washington DC or the capitol of my state and even then the cost of that and living is too high to be feasible unless I had assistance. I'm actually going to go back to school and get a masters or JD, while working on a teaching certificate this fall because at least then I can teach or do sub work until I can find some sort of work to make enough money to relocate with only minor assistance from a future employer.
If you move out by 25 it's likely you'd still need help from your parents for several years. Even if you did it"on your own." You could only do so at enormous expense that transfered into crippling debt.
The tech field is very competitive and while growing, we're also funneling a lot of people into it because everyone thinks it's the field to be in. One of my friends from high school is working at Microsoft and interned at Google but only because he was a god among men when it came to his focus.

Yeah, basically.
You probably aren't going to be 100% self sufficient by the age of 18.
Do you plan on going to college? You do realize that even people with a college education have a hard time being 100% self sufficient by doing freelance programming and computer security work (and working with venture capital of course).
Good luck with that though.I don't get tired.

Yes. Madly.
It's true for all fields, not just tech.
And I totally ignored debt. It is true you can live on your own and get a college education at 18 without your parents help. People do it all the time. They just have unbelievable amounts of debt. I don't think that counts as "self sufficient," since you are relying on the loans of an organization, and trust me they charge higher interest than your parents. Consider it a "loan" from your parents if you have to. But thinking that graduating high school means you'll financially cut off from your family just isn't realistic.
I saw a great article online about it, but it was too long ago for me to remember what it was called. But it discussed how in modern day families, a child doesn't fully detach from the nest (both financially or where they live) until mid twenties; and it contrasted this with a century ago, which I believe is where the 18-and-out stereotype is from. Then I think it went on to talk about the economic reasons for this, but I digress.

What do you think about the fact that the physics engine is so poor in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, that there's only one RAM value for acceleration and deceleration, which can be abused to use deceleration to cause rapid backwards acceleration?
Disco is neat.
