Nice one. I'm about 5-10 pounds away from my target weight myself. I've come a long way since high school (now entering senior year of uni).
Gonna be ripped as Soul by the end of this. I didn't follow P90x but that's just because I've kind of liked working my own diet out combined with jogging, cardio and weight training / core that i can do at home with dumbbells.

P90x and insanity is all about improvement. People who can last through the entire session first time in don't need to use the P90X work out as they are already in a good physically fit shape. It's good to use for excercise ideas, but it's target audience isnt supposed to be able to last through it the first time. All about determination

Well it does and it doesent. There is no point in downlading p90x if you make threads about gaining weight because your too skinny. P90x Is a very intense exercise that not a lot of people can do and its based around losing weight and gaining muscle. I only got it so I could learn exercises that work out and lose wight in certain parts of my body. As for the download, you could have googled it like I did.

Wow. Mirror image alert. I'm about 6"4, and I actually just hit my target weight of 180 pretty recently. Trying to form them beach washboard abs though, srking on it. I was at 180 last year but with considerably less muscle on my arms/stomach.
I'm guessing you're trying to tone middle body, thighs, stomach, and obliques. That was my general goal.

Jogging is good. I jog about 15 miles a week, although due to excessive work hours, I've been limiting it down to about 10 miles a week last 2-3 weeks. (Go jogging every other day, about 4 times a week). I've found that if you want to increase overall lung capacity, you have to try jogging faster than you're accustomed to. When you start getting unable to maintain your breath you can slow your pace a little. Jogging consistantly is also good, but I've recgonized recently that it's actually near impossible to improve distance by alot or improve speed by a good amount if you don't try to push yourself to jog faster (should have been obvious i guess since not pushing yourself = no improvement for anything. Oh well derp).

I downloaded P90X the other day. I haven't gotten a chance to burn it to a DVD yet, but I should start soon.
I'm not going to be loosing weight (Muscle just adds weight) but I do want to get thinner. That's just my goal, muscles and less fat.
Any tips on certain exercises to do? Arm muscles and leg muscles would be nice, because I BMX (They're already pretty good, but better is always good) but I'm up for anything that can help me loose fat from my stomach. I'm ~20 pounds overweight.

Somehow i doubt the accuracy of your statement.
How many calories do I burn biking? | FitnessforWeightLoss.com
Assuming you cycled at 10 mph, you would achieve 9 miles in 1 hour and a half of cycling. With that being said, you would burn 650 calories even if you were as light as 150 pounds.
If it's doing virtually nothing, re-think what 9 miles actually is and try timing your speed and how long you cycle for versus randomly thinking you cycle magic numbers.

What is your weight and height? or BMI if you prefer. I can probably answer that question easily if I knew a bit more about your body structure. An additional 650 calories a day is ridiculously huge. That would basically mean you'd lose weight unless you were eating a fourth large meal a day (i consider 650 a large meal).

Took 155 and 5" 7.5 since you're unsure. Your BMI would be roughly 24. If you do actually bike around 9 miles a day, you are definately burning roughly 650-700 calories a day. That means your total daily intake of calories could be roughly 2700 and you would maintain your weight without gaining weight.
If that is the case and you do not notice a significant differences there can be two reasons:
1) your metabolism is slow. Your metabolism increases the pace at which you digest food, and the faster you train it to be, the better off you are. Basic metabolism process is sped up by eating smaller portions of food, but eating more consistantly. In example, I eat 5 meals a day usually, without really thinking about it. My portions are just alot smaller than they used to be, and my metabolism has increased significantly. If you are stuck at a point where you are eating healthy but it's not helping, you need to build more muscle mass. When you build muscle mass. Muscle mass requires constant training to keep it as muscle so that it doesn't burn into fat, but one of the perks of muscle mass is that it essentially helps your body burn extra calories just by being there. Perhaps soul could bring to light more information on that, I only know the jist of it.
2) Consume less calories. Most people honestly don't need to eat 2700 calories a day. Like I said if you are burning 700 cals a day (extra) and eating just as many, you are probably eating too much. Most people don't need to maintain by eating 2700 calories a day. Granted when you excercise you should eat more than usual, and more often than not, as well as increase protein in take. Still that should not be totalling up to an extra meal a day.

Thank you for posting all of that too I was thinking last night "Hmm... if the average calorie intake for someone should be 2k, and I'm taking in 2.7k, and still burning ~700 calories, I need to eat less o-o" and it helped me eat three crackers as a snack before I went to bed (I also figured I shouldn't be eating right before bed, which I never noticed before) instead of a huge handful or bowl of chips. Also, I'm trying to ride my bike even FARTHER today, to burn even more calories.
- 17 Jul. 2012 04:53pm #30
Instead of riding your bike, trying do a different excercise. Weight training, jogging, push ups or sit ups even. If you do the same excercise too much, you're actually getting used to straining your muscles in the same way, and because of that earn a reduced effect from the excercise over long periods of time. That is the exact thing P90x avoids when it gives you a variety of exercise. Muscle confusion for results.
