The apocalypse is a pretty pointless debate seeing as how if it happens we die and if it doesn't then nothing happens.

I don't believe so. Apocolypse in definition is "A new beginning". So since that's when the Calendar ended, the new one will begin on that day.

Also on a side note Apocalypse isn't defined as a new beginning.

Now the dawning of a new age/era may be considered beginning however that has nothing to do with the actual word Apocalypse. People are just associating the Apocalypse with the new era.
