With the constant radio play and media presence when Judas and all that came out, you don't think I've heard a few Lady Gaga songs?
I remain unimpressed. I don't form opinions without doing research. I hate your "favs" cause I listened to them, analyzed them, and judged them to be frivolous. Are they less frivolous than the rock and metal bands I tout? In many respects, no, in others, yes. Both use similar progressions: mine focus on technical instrumental skill and yours focus on lyrical word play. y greatest aggravation stem from her not admitting to ripping off some rather great artists and the fact she went to Juilliard, honed technical prowess, and then sold out. That is why I don't like her. Her abilities are so much more and I think if you have that talent and you waste it you're bad person and should be shunned.
tl;tr: Lady Gaga most likley loves Shoenberg, has played Schoenberg and sold out to be pop artist.

In slight rebuke of your example, I never get why people get so upset with "sell outs".
Maybe they genuinely wanted to take that career path? I just don't see why it's such a big deal to be main stream or further your career.
If it's something you enjoy and can make money why not?
Edit: Not saying your opinion is wrong, just talking about the sell out thing.
All hail kitty pig.

Its an opinion not a fact so I don't care if someone thinks its wrong.
You don't go to Juilliard cause you enjoy pop music. If you did you'd show up for class they'd ask about your influences and then laugh at you. I don't believe she enjoys her own music. I think she enjoys fame and money.

You're listening to her singles, which isn't a great representation of who she is. Of course she'll release the most generic things as singles. She hasn't sold out (well she has, but not as much) She stuck to her rock sound (her single you and I has a nice rock feel to it) with her most recent album, and still dabbles in jazz.
For example

That is better but she didn't write it. She covered it.
When she comes back with something like this then I'll sign on: John Adams - The Chairman Dances - San Francisco Symphony Orchestra*, Edo de Waart - 1986 - YouTube
Because that's the kind of stuff you learn to write at Juilliard. Even if its a offshoot side thing where its released under her real name so it doesn't hurt "Lady Gaga" that's fine. I get the whole "Lady Gaga" is a character and she writes songs for her like Alice Cooper wrote for "Alice". But even Alice Cooper feels way more complex than Gaga. If she nodded her head to the fact she isn't doing any thing new and wrote something complex and orchestral I'd respect her. But I'll never like her music, it doesn't appeal to me. I like John Denver and I like Guns N Roses and I like a lots things between those and then I like a whole other realm of music that looks down on all of that and finds it crude and unimaginative.
An by nod her head either she has to say it or do a song with like Ozzy or Alice or Bowie where the world would look at it and it would be obvious. The fact the media acts like she's invented any thing new bothers me. Ozzy bit the head off a bat and licked up his own urine to sell Black Sabbath, Meat dress should hardly be a shock considering.
I'll go look at You and I though, but a "rock" sound is hardly a redemption to the bubblegum pop she churns out in other singles.

She actually left Julliard because she said it wasn't her thing. You don't have to like her music, but at least respect her as a musician. She writes all her lyrics and co-produced her entire Born This Way album. Has she done anything new? Nope. But she is a breath of fresh air compared to what Katy Perry/Rihanna/Ke$ha release lately. I don't think the media acts like Gaga invented everything, they constantly compare her work to Madonna.

Its a five chord song. It only sounds rock because it has distorted sounds over a piano with a guitar solo. A half decent high school garage band could have written that. I expect more from someone with her talent and education. Left or not, you have to be awesome to get into Julliard. So I want her to be awesome.
They only do that because they don't pay attention so they don't have anything else to compare her to.

But she IS good. She was one of 7 (i believe it was 7) to be granted early admission to Julliard. I could cite a ton of examples of her best work, but I don't think you'd want to listen to so much of her music. She uses her talent to make quality pop music, so don't expect any mind blowing symphonies to be written.
