I could rant on this for a year. Especially if you throw in the other bit they do about how religious beliefs should be personal, not law. News flash... ALL laws stem from religious beliefs. Every single frigging one of them. Except for speeding. And yeah, all citizens should be treated as equals. But Animal Farm pretty much sums up why THAT never works. That, and our new culture says that everyone is "special," and special people deserve special treatment... and special people CAN'T be equals because then nobody is special anymore and nobody who is special wants to not be special anymore.
"You should treat us as equals, because we're special." And yet NOBODY can figure out why that doesn't work.
You know what's the saddest thing? I'm actually behind them. Marriage as an institution is ludicrous - you are either in a relationship that works, or you aren't. If somebody is happy to row the ship of your life with you, how does chaining them to the gunnels help? So far as I'm concerned, anyone DUMB enough to wanna get married should be allowed to. Wow, officially the crappiest pro-equality speech ever. Welcome to a quick synopsis of the chaos inside my head.

All that before 10am. Not bad. I love your point about people wanting to be special, but special can't be special because everybody's equal. Words of wisdom.
