Ask for permission to make a siggy from scratch that looks similar to something you did? Even if, graphic design is at it's best when users share and contribute to other's work.

It is proper to ask, even if the answer is no, you can still do it.
This way others (Who do not understand the graphical ways) do not say you stole it.
