Recommend the most stable, recent build you can think of.

(No, i'm not converting, I'm getting it so I can play with this on a virtual machine)

I would recommend you try 10.5.8. 10.6 versions are very picky on what hardware it will run on.

Use this vmware image. It is difficult to get leopard to install on a virtual machine. So use a pre-made vmware image.
