Part 1: RROD Prevention
Keep the thing well ventilated. Don't have it stuffed in a corner, stop playing at regular intervals to let it cool down and for the love of god don't put anything on top of it.
Note: Don't use any sort of 3rd party fans, children. They've been known to damage the console. In some extreme cases, they freakin' melt. They also void the 360's warranty.
Part 2: RROD Remedy...ation.
Choice 1 (Recommended COA): Just call Microsoft and tell them the thing broke. They'll send you a box to put the 360 in so you can send it back to them. You'll get the box in 3-5 business days and you'll get the 360 back 3-4 weeks after you've sent it to them, then you can start playing again.
Note: Microsoft pays for the shipping and handling and the repair of the console. Also, remove your hard drive and all the wires and crap before shipping it. Microsoft customer service number: 1-800-4MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269)
Make sure to send only the 360 unit itself in the box and remove and keep
-harddrive
-faceplate
-any disc that may be in the tray
-wires
-power cord
-controllers
they may not be returned if you do send them!
Choice 2: The towel trick is where you wrap your 360 in towels, turn it on and let it bake.
Notes: First off, something just bothers the hell out of me about this trick. It's probably just my imagination, but it might be harmful to your console. Second, this is at best a temporary fix. Third, the towels are going to get very, very hot.
What you'll need:
Xbox 360
Xbox 360 power chord
Two towels
Optional:
Extra towel
Fire extinguisher
Airsoft replica of the gun that RoboCop used
Step 1: Make sure the console is off and detach everything from the 360 except for the power chord. Everything means the hard drive too.
Step 2: Wrap the 360 in the two (or three) towels and turn it on.
Step 3: Let bake for 15-25 minutes.
Step 4: Unwrap and turn off the console. Leave it off for 15-30 minutes.
Step 5: Plug everything back in and see if it works.
So, basically, take towels, take 360, wrap it up, bake for about twenty minutes, ???, let cool for half an hour, profit!
Choice 3: X Clamp. VOIDS WARRANTY!
Part 3: Causing the RRoD.
To cause the RRoD for the masochistic of you out there, leave that fucker on over night wrapped in a bunch of towels or something. Not only will it RRoD, but you can get a 120G HDD with the fire insurance money!
So it would seem that even sending it to MS is a temporary fix too, as it had been repaired before, but at least it's in the hands of trained professionals. Also, the Jews did it comment was based on the lolness of the History Channel featuring YTMND on their 9/11 special.

What it does is overheat a data chip inside your xbox causing it to reset which causes it to lose any data concerning the RRoD

Thanks for this.. Now im thinking of buying one of those cooling-fans so it dosnt overheat
- 12 Nov. 2009 05:09am #6
there is a cooling fan that works I forgot what it was called. The other fans don't work mainly because its blowing air into the 360 instead of sucking the air out which causes the hot air to have to search for another exit which means it hasgo bakc through everything before it gets out which causes it too overheat. And dust that bitch everyone once in a while it helps.
