Online Community Matches Red Cross Donations to Support Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort
San Jose, Calif. (PRWEB) January 15, 2010 -- In response to the tremendous devastation caused by the earthquake that struck Haiti earlier this week, members of Gaia Online, the world's most active online community of more than nine million teens and young adults, have taken to the site's forums and message boards to discuss the tragedy. Gaians are online sharing their concern for the victims and learning of ways they can support the relief efforts.
In support of the victims in Haiti, Gaia Online is matching donations to the Red Cross relief and development efforts up to $10,000. To make a Gaia Online matched donation, visit the Red Cross Website at American Red Cross, click on "Donate Now," and select "Haiti Relief and Development." When completing the donation form, type Gaia Online in the field titled "Company/Organization Name." Supporters do not need to be a Gaia Online member to make a matched donation.
"We are inspired by our member's overwhelming compassion for the victims of this disaster who have lost loved ones, their homes and access to basic necessities," said Craig Sherman, CEO of Gaia Online. "This is a great example of how a virtual effort can make an impact in the real world, and our team is pleased to be able to match our users' generous donations."
In addition to matching donations, the online hangout has created a dedicated online forum to serve as a destination for members to coordinate support and donation efforts.

With this scheme, they make no profit off of it, but its the classic redemption scheme. "Oh look, we are donating to a charity, you should support US even more!!!"

Don't call Gaia greedy. Gaia is just as greedy, if not even less greedy than many others.
Myspace for example puts all those apps like mobsters, and has exclusive items only for purchase as opposed to Gaia where you can buy a cash shop item in the marketplace from somebody who got it.
I don't understand why you all complain about gaia and sit down for laborious ours trying to get accounts. If you're really upset, go hack the whole website, not users.
I find donating to Haiti quite a good deed, taking into consideration they're simply an infamous online game.

I agree with Gina...
I think Gaia is just using one of it's ways to promote people into buying Gaia cash.

Gaia is, and always will be, greedy, just like most businesses.
