You might've noticed that Gaya have a lottery ticket system now, where you can buy a number of tickets and hope for the best that you'll win something. Have any of you tried it? or do you think that it's just a trick gold sink? post your opinions.

For all the stuff that happens around here, LG itself is always remarkably unchanged. Thanks to the folks who still remembered I was once here and welcomed me back despite me being retarded.

its so annoying it's like a way to give false hope to members then someone who will likely never log in again wins from buying one ticket

i dont like the gaia lottery system. they keep members hoping that they can win millions of gold. -.- btw, they have some power picking items that can be bought in cash shop for more chances of winning right?. -.-
- 10 Nov. 2009 04:43am #4
It is a trick gold sink. the only way you can truly win is if you buy the cash shop item. other then that its just like a real life lottery, the one who spends the most will have a higher change to win.

its a scam. they are draining gold like there is no tomorrow and using it to make money. They sell those power picks for cash and drain like 10 mill a day from stupid users, more at the beginning, and then hand out maybe 2 or 3 mill to some random noob and then he buys a nhb and drives up the price.

Just another Daily Chance.
The likely hood of you winning something
worth wild is close to nothing.
- 10 Nov. 2009 04:47am #7
even when people actually encourage others to not buy the power picks, there's always going to be some noob who thinks he/she can make it big by purchasing one of them and using the same. tbh, this statement really does sum up most people's thoughts;

But still, you'd say that Gaya are the greatest tricksters of the online world. Atleast with WoW you can get what you paid for, but this is plain dumb. =X
Every month they come up with some new scam to rob the users of their gold and their RL money, and keep getting away with it. Honestly, someone should sue them, but their ToS protects them from that, even. ool:My contributions:

yep, gaia owns all your stuff and all the rights to it.

rather lame
even w/ the power pick, the likelyhood of winning (something worthwhile) is very slim
but gaia is smart so they advertise people winning like 20m, which make everyone else desperate to win
- 10 Nov. 2009 05:01am #13
and most likely they siphoned the profits off to line the mods' pockets. Honestly, I wonder if anybody actually won a prize, or if this is just some cover-up. *sigh*

i honestly think its a waste of gold to do it unless we get a crack that make it work then its good

I wouldn't have a problem with the lotto system if they got rid of the Power Pick option. Automatically getting a correct number is like having a question on a multiple choice test answered for you by the teacher. It's cheating, and it skews the odds of winning in favor of those who fork over real money for virtual stuff.
However, I do like the idea of using a lotto as a gold sink. Even though a few lucky people manage to win a lottery game and walk away with a crap ton of money, lotto games themselves (at least in real life) are designed to remove money from the players. For example, I live in Pennsylvania and I sell lotto tickets as part of my job working at a convenience store. The Pennsylvania Lottery give back 55% of the money collected by players back as prizes. That means 45% of all the money they generate does not get returned as cash to the players (It goes to the State of PA to fund various state programs). If Gaia's lotto opperates similarly, then only a portion of the gold genderated by the lotto is returned to the user base while a chunk of it is just simply removed from the system, thus acting as a goldsink.

no one wants to spend over 20$ in cash shop items just to win a few k since everyone else wants to win gold to
- 10 Nov. 2009 07:18am #18
That's why I don't like the Power Pick idea. IF I'm going to spend Gaia Cash, it will be on something guaranteed, not a chance.
However, the lottuld be just fine and dandy if it was left as a gold-only feature with an even playing field for all users.

i got 500 gold from it...
but it still sucks
cuz i spen 10k on it :\
i'm stupid i know :\
- 10 Nov. 2009 05:29pm #21
Tried it ... just lost about 10k in tickets total ... pointless
- 10 Nov. 2009 05:42pm #22
See, that's why I never played it to begin with. It's a good goldsink idea, but I know first hand how much money people waste in real life on lotto games. That's why I rarely ever participate in lotto games. Since I turned 18 I spent less than $10 total on real-life lotto, and that's because relatives will occasionally tell me to buy a $1 ticket for them or something.
- 10 Nov. 2009 07:05pm #23I like the first version of it, when there was no power cash shop thingy yet, i won like 200k+ from it. xP
But right now, i stopped dropping buy to fill out tickets -.-
- 10 Nov. 2009 07:08pm #24
Honestly, it's just another way for gaia to take all of the extra gold in the cummunity back from all the botting, scamming and phising and honestly it's working. People are throwing gold at gaia for nothing.. I never use the damn things because I know my chances of winning a big prize. 0%
- 04 Mar. 2010 03:52am #25
Gaia is ruining itself inside out.
This "lottery" is terrible. It's making the gaia society loose millions, and what do they do with that gold? Well nothing. It isn't worth shit. And like the other comments, if someone DOES win, they don't get al the money. And if they do and go buy something from the market, prices go insane affecting everyone. It's giving false hpe to people.
We need the old Gaia back. :\
