Starting to get into it

I'm starting to get into Adventure Quest but I'm still a bit unclear about a few things:

1. What are credits?
2. What is the level cap?
3. Can you 'friend' someone and chat with them?
4. Is there a gold cap?

I'm also really new to this, so please, any tips or tricks about Adventure Quest will help
