Ideally I'd want to reward whoever has the most creative interpretations, but I'm not sure how I'd do that just yet.
Silversun Pickups, on top of being one of my favorite artists, are notoriously metaphorical.
First song: Catch & Release
Pardon me, want to live in a fantasy?
Quietly, show you everything you'll ever need.
I hope you'll take it.
I know you're fakin' just a little bit.
Come on and taste it.
Just get excited 'cause you're givin' it.
Come and see how the wind in your hair will flow differently.
Catch and release the lure above.
Here we are, in a backwater overflow.
Later on, don't say I didn't tell you so.
Maybe I didn't, but you're taking it.
Knew you were faking just a little bit.
Now that you taste it.
No need to fight it 'cause you're givin' it.
Follow me down the streams of sweat on your body.
Can't believe the lure was enough.
Do you see how the wind in your hair now flows differently?
Catch and release the lure above.
And who knows how this feeling grows?
Was it truly worth, truly worth the starting?
And who knows why the engine's blown?
Hope it's truly worth, truly worth the parting.
Follow me down the streams of sweat on your body.
Can't believe the lure was enough.
Do you see how the wind in your hair now flows differently?
Catch and release the lure above.
Guess the lure was enough.
Guess the lure was enough.
Yes, the lure was enough.

Originally i had like five different things that i thought it could be about, but when the song was over i was kind of able to pinpoint the feeling i was getting from it.
It sounds like a song,
where someone is trying to save someone from a toxic life.
and towards the end it almost sounds as if they failed at doing so.
thats my take

I've been looking up song interpretations for the band, and the best part is how everyone has drastically different interpretations of every song.
The best I read is this song is about sex, presumably with a virgin. He convinces her to have sex with words and no substance -- a lure with no bait. No promises of everlasting love or marriage. Just do it because it's fun, share the experience with him, try it out and see if she likes it, and she does try it. He tells her there's no point in stopping now; he can't believe he convinced her.

I hope it's not the virgin thing. I feel like that's too obvious for a group that is supposed to be about metaphors. I feel like it might be commentary on society.
Do you want to live in a the fantasy of the happiness that society promises? Do you want to accept that all there is to life is get a good job with good pay, buy crap to keep up with the neighbors, have kids, and be productive and participate? Will you accept the lure of that happiness and the easy way of not having to think or do anything hard by examining your life or building yourself as a person? I feel like the follow the sweat line is dealing with the fact we spend our lives working at one time so that we don't have trk later. The wind in your hair being different is just about you've accepted the fantasy and now things work differently or you see them differently any way.
