Well there arent many positives. basically, if you are in law enforcement as just an officer, you dont get any perks, work shitty hours, and get fat because of boredom and complacency, however the positive are ok, however few and far between. Basically the positive is that you enforce the law, and can carry a firearm at all times. basically the only plus is the satisfaction of knowing you are protecting people.

I know several that think this is worth any price, especially because it grants them the power to look out for their family and friends. Also you are connected once you are with in the police force, cops watch out for each other and do favors for each other.

This.

Of course, in India here, being a cop has plenty of privileges. If you get the ear of a politician, you can be as bad as you like and nobody can say a word about it. Also you can collect as much protection money as you like from businesses in your local beat. I live near a big shopping district, which is one of the places where they actually pay money to the superiors to get posted there. More money for them in that case.

But if you ignore the ones who do this, the cops are nice guys out here. The beat cop on my street knows me well, and I'm quite friendly with him.
