"Doing something extra" is fine. Resetting the game 65,000 times so that your Pokemon sparkles is retarded. Do something worthwhile, like breeding or trading at the GTC or trying to get 99 of every item. The new GTC supports submitting Pokemon photos (Fashion Case) to GTC, along with battle videos. Make those, submit them.
Raise a Pokemon so strong that you can beat the entire Elite Four with just him. Catch every Unown. Mimic Red's team.

Regarding shiny Pokemon: Most of them are ugly as a shiny, anyway.

@GAMEchief: Don't forget "Collect all 493 Pokemon".

EDIT: @Bman: My brother put new game on mine, I lost my Pikachu-Colored Pichu and Spiky Eared Pichu. :[ I just got Azalea Town.

That aside, I caught the Red Gyrados with one Fast Ball. =D -brag,brag,brag-

I guess. It's the same as the original Gold version, so I already knew most of it. I added some of the changes in this version specifically.
