Go into your system 32 file, drivers, etc, and open the hosts in a notepad then tell me what the last line is.

I doubt a system restore will work but go ahead and try.

Is it just on one browser?
Or have you tried others.

and have you attempted to do some virus scans? sounds like malware >.>;;

I'm scanning with superanti spyware, would that work.
And if this isn't good, mind suggesting a good virus scanner?

Download AVG And run a slow scan. Then click remove all infected files...

That is the best way to get rid of it...
#17
Then your internet explorer files were edited, either attempt to fix it on your own or reinstall it.

No they wont. It will simply remove any infected files, which he has to do anyway. Any infected file can re-download the virus even if the virus is removed... Probably anyway, if it is a well designed virus...

If it was a well designed virus it wouldn't just edit IE.

That may not be all it is doing. Thats just all we know its doing...

Some viruses are designed well enough to hide what tasks they are doing...

Might be uninstalling drivers, restricting sites, ect.

Then he uses it as a slave computer.
#23
AVG is better... Even the free version...

AVG has skipped some things that S&D has caught for me ;/
Also, it doesn't hurt to run more than one scanner.
If he has vista, windows defender should already be on there- and he should throw that scanner on too.

Sounds like, its reporting files that are un necessary to delete.

Great Idea. If you are deleting items that you don't need to, why not have other people do the same.
