I kinda wish I could make instrumentals, but I want to make variants of Techno more than anything.
Damn.

FLStudio/Ableton
And NI Massive

I just downloaded 2GB of hiphop samples and am working on a beat. I also downloaded a few GB of voice samples and dubstep/house/trance/hardstyle samples the other day, so I'm going to try making some stuff with FL studio.

Yeah, that's what I did, I have FL Studio and it's amazing for beginners. After you get pretty good with FL Studio, I would move onto Ableton. It's a bit more advanced and a bit harder to get used to, a steeper learning curve. If you're going to pirate FL Studio though, you should pirate some samples too, beats and melodies and stuff like that to use in your songs. FL Studio comes with a lot, but they kind of suck haha.

Oh I know it comes with shitty shit.
Where would I find good samples, beats and melodies?

Try googling sound packs.
9 times out of 10, you'll have to buy them, but you can find them available for Torrents.
You can also go to Free Loops Beats Samples Apple Loops Acapellas Vocals Sounds FX Tutorials Vsti Plugins
Make an account and download as many samples as you want.

I use Samples occasionally, because they're fun to throw in and reverse/glitch/warp/distort to make your own sound.

Well how would you make your own songs without samples, whether they be of your own creation with a synth or downloaded?
