I have a compaq laptop only paid 50$ so dont tell me to buy a new one ._. Which was going pretty fast and smooth when i first got it but then i started to download music and all that shit which slowed it down alot and by that i mean it would take a while to go to google. So i deleted all the music a while back its still pretty slow and it says i have 158 gb free of 219.
RAM. Extend its RAM. It could also be the processor, but if you have at least a half decent processor then RAM should do the trick. Make sure your system is clean and healthy and everything should be fine thereafter.
Agreed. The HDD space doesn't really have anything to do with the speed of the computer unless you're talking about having it filled to capacity. The processor and ram are responsible for that. Unless you're dealing with something that requires a video card, in which case you have to account for that as well.
If it was fast and has slowed down maybe run CCleaner and fragment your drive(I'd suggest defraggler). Clean up your registry as well. Make sure a ton of crap doesn't load at startup. Typical things, you already know you should do but most likely aren't. After that you could lower visual settings in favor of performance.

I also Suggest using KingSoft PC doctor, I used these and never had a problem with viruses or computer slowing down.
