It's already dead and digesting in my dog's stomach.

It could be that too, I live right next to river. There has been a lot of construction on the bridge so I wouldn't be surprised if that ran them into our yard. This one was already dead, but we've seen two in the same week. The other one was still alive, and the little bugger was fast as hell.

Interesting fact:
If a snake has elliptical pupils (think of a cat's eye) it's venomous. If it's pupil is completely round it's non venomous. (At least in north america)

It's an indigo snake :D! Apparently they're protected, and rare. And the best part? They eat cottonmouths and rattle snakes!
