We are aware that in all modern western cultures its cool for men to take their shirts off? You can pretty much go places like that. I do it, well I wear a leather jacket or a button down shirt open but yeah. Male chest doesn't have much to do with dignity. Though I guess from your prospective it might be like a girl but then I'd point to the fact that American women are pretty uh, well dude they'll change in front of you and flash you tits pretty much for so many reasons its not even funny.
But since you seem to be uncomfortable, don't do it. Its not a big deal.
