Not at all. Maybe not effective in a gun fight but in a knife fight you'd be leet. I wish I had a gun blade to shoot and cut kids with.
Its super practical in earlier times when guns were not as developed. Like if you hooked up a samurai in feudal japan with a katana with a gun in it, he'd be bad ass. Same for a knight. Long sword could basically be a small cannon. Ax would be pistol, maybe rifle.
