By item grant you mean... Daily Chance, the items you get when a promo is on like the harry potter or skittles ones?

I think he's talking about grants like event items and such. Yes many work if you can get the links to them. On old LG we had a list of them.

This is what he is probably talking about.
There is also a bot for this before, put the links.
Then account names. They'll get it all for you.

Anyway, yes it still does work.
Problem is, there are only a few links around...
Also, It is hard to collect items without bot -.-

You can get them off tektek too, I'm not sure if you can anymore.
