Cheating: FPS vs RPG discussion.
I've been speculating this topic for a while now, I feel there is a big difference to cheating when it comes to specific genres of a game. While I believe some genres are alright to cheat on, however others are just asshole-ish.
MMO/RPG -
Basically, Mmorpg or RPG's I feel are fine to cheat/bot on. Most of these games require you to level a character or do quests etc, and this is really grindish. I can understand why people would cheat to bypass the grind stages to focus more on endgame content. As it's really not harming anyone else game experience if you're focusing on your own character. However there are exceptions to where and when cheating in mmorpg's should draw a line. While you are using bots/cheats to grind your character to a higher level you understand that doing this you are missing vital stages of your characters upbringing and skills that posses your characters class, and you miss these and working out how your toons skills work. So that does benefit you on learning this all later, however you will tend to engage in pvp activity with this "illegitimate" character. You won't understand the full concept on the good methods of being successful in a duel. Therefore you're resulting to more cheats to give you a benefit in winning against another player. This is where I believe it draws a line, you're no longer focusing on your own characters upbringing but more of using methods to defeat someone that wasn't intended and this gives the opposing player a really unfair advantage. Since you use cheats to only engage in npc combat, there is really no lopsided advantage towards any character as you're already at that stage of versing that enemy and it merely comes down to your character.
FPS -
This basically counts towards my last spiel, single player cheating, I define as fine/okay. This is because once again you're only versing computer/npc enemy's its not a real person on the other side of the screen who you're up against. Where as multiplayer, you're playing against someone who has brought the game to play online (as most fps require a purchase) only to be continuously head shot by aim bots, and being predicatively spotted with wall hacks. It really causes a large disadvantage towards that player. It's really hard to play any online fps game anymore without someone being claimed a hacker or actually being a hacker themselves. This being so because the term hacker has merely come to be defined: "Anyone who just killed me" because of all the hackers, no-one can play The Game anymore without fear of having a hacker join. Therefore their playing experience is decreased and ruins peoples interest in those sorts of games. And I feel that hacking on an fps game really defeats the purpose of playing/buying the game, of course you could own someone over and over and over again but in the end it's no fun for anyone. You've gained no new skill in the game, you've been blacklisted by half the people you play with and people tend to despise you.
Inb4 Tl;dr, this is debate. If my view on this was short it wouldn't have been worth writing a topic about. So don't bitch, it's my clear (I hope), view on when hacking should and should not be used.
Also I know I'm LG's local neighborhood troll, but this is srs topic. I wrote this in one sitting, haven't read over it, so if you want me to explain something let me know.
Please feel free to comment on anythings I may have left out, add anything you may want to add, and express your views on cheating RPG vs FPS.
