I've never had surgery, so I'm pretty nervous rn (calling a surgeon to schedule/discuss payment plans this afternoon)
Have any of you ever had surgery? What was anesthesia like? Did you wake up in the middle of the operation?
I know google is my friend and all, but I figured I could use all the input I could get
It's not a big deal. I've had two mandatory surgeries and an elective one.
Anesthesia is pretty cool. You put on a mask, they ask you to count backwards and then a couple of seconds later you're waking up from what feels like the best nap ever.
You will probably have ben awake prior to "waking up" but you won't remember it.
You can wake up or be responsive during the operation technically(depends on the type of surgery), but it's not your conscious mind. You won't feel or remember hardly anything.
yes, quite a few times. most memorable (or most talked about)...i was 4-5 i fell in a whole bunch of glass cutting into a vein that nearly killed me, it had to be sealed up and stitched. there were also other things done to it which led to surgery since the vein was too damaged to circulate any blood around it; nerves were also badly damaged. it's been fine ever since, the nerves have healed and the vein is good as new.
sadly, i cannot really remember any other surgeries since they weren't really severe, just small problems like bones.
as coffin said, you will NOT remember the surgery; only parts of it. it will just be talked about or mentioned by your family/friends/who ever was around.

I've had it twice. First one was fine. You go to sleep, then you wake up, you feel kinda groggy for a bit, and someone else has to drive for you.
Second time was also fine, but it was a stomach surgery that left me feeling like throwing up forever. So I associate the smell of anesthesia with that sick-to-my-stomach feeling. But said feeling isn't normal for most surgeries; it just coincidentally is the surgery I had.

Thanks everyone, you've actually been really reassuring! My main concern was either waking up in the middle of operation and feeling everything, or being able to feel everything and not be able to tell the doctors.
Yeah, pretty sure that happens next to never. You don't need to worry about that at all.
When they stick thw needle in or serinch in it only feels like a little mosquito bite that hurts for a split second, after that you dont remember a thing till after you wake up.
You shouldnt be able to wake up in thw middle of the surgery tho thats what anesteshia is for
The aame this happened when i fell of my bike once, all i remember is jumping off a ramp and thwn waking up on the floor with dip on my head because i ko'd my self, i guess god takes controll of your body and mind right bsfore a big accident is suposed to happen, either that if you lose the memory of it happenng when yoj hit yourhead:D

Cant rapists just buy that mask and some anesteshia (obtained tru the deep web) and use it to put their vitims to sleep?
Well that's a dark question, but the masks are attached to the gas tanks, which aren't particularly portable. They are typically giant, metal cannisters. Since they have to be durable enough to contain compressed gas, they are made of pretty heavy material.
