I think it puts a lot of shit in perspective though that self-proclaimed "nice guys" don't seem to understand, e.g. that being a "nice guy" is not something to be praised but to be expected of any human being, or how fighting in a relationship isn't something that happens to "nice guys."

I was a nice guy in high school, basically the love of my life sees me as her brother and now I have meaningless sex with anything that moves and use my psuedo-rocker persona to get laid while never developing a real relationship. Oh, and while I pretend to have moved one every bloody time I see her I realize I can't. Yay me!

If she said you're too nice and that's why she doesn't want to be with you, and that's all. Like in example "You're so nice and just like my brother, if you weren't so nice I could be with you." Then that goes back to the first statement. She didn't like you, she wanted to shape you into another person. I want to get through to you, it's because she wanted you to be something or someone else than you were.
The other one possible option is she really wasn't interested or was interested at one point of time and now isn't. So now she no longer sees you in that way.
The last one which is possible is she doesn't know what she wants. She wanted/wants to be with you to a certain degree but is indecisive. That or she enjoys the attention of stringing someone along.
Either way even if it was nine years of complete bs it might be time to start working on getting over her. The hardest part being the motivation to do so. : (
