I've been really into metal lately. My boyfriend got me into it. He listens to a lot of Metallica, but im looking for other suggestions. Any good Metal bands and or songs that you know of? Dont recommend anything by Metallica, I already know it all -__-
Metal is a VERY wide genre, you do realize that, right?
Ok, first off I hate Metallica.
Intro To Metal 101:
Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Skid Row, Motely Crew, Ratt, Dethklok, Ozzy, Slayer, Mastodon, Pantera, Judas Priest, Alice In Chains, Alice Cooper(there was a period of metal/there is also a continuum of awesome), Sleep, Spinal Tap, Motorhead, Korn(not a fan but you need to hear Nu-Metal).
All classic or at least mainstream, it's a good overview.
If you want something more modern try Avenged Sevenfold or The Black Veil Bride(hate their look, but they're a decent hair metal ripp off band) or Lamb Of God. Marilyn Manson is metal as well I suppose. There is a lot.
I'm a big metal guy but I hate some of the stuff that modern metal has devolved into. Things like Asking Alaxanderia or Hollywood Undead make me cringe and wonder why someone who actually plays metal hasn't killed them yet.

Get British Steel. It's there real breakout album. Has Grinder, which is similar to Painkiller.

There is a lot of bad metal. Still if you like , let's say Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple or Blue Oyster Cult or arguably even Hendrix then you like metal since they are classified as such.
Metal in it's heyday(actually heyday not the commercial heyday) was based around the skills of virtuoso musicians. Which is to say that metal was at one point simply rock music that featured those that played their instruments better than other people.
People who understand metal have an extremely different sense of rhythm, look at the drummers, those are the best... Also I like some songs of metal, but i don't listen to it.Quote:

If you haven't been to a show, you need to go. I would avoid the floor and moshes until you've been to a few shows. It's an interesting community and a very personal experience. Metal doesn't get signed to labels very often so most are never hugely successful so they stay humble and remember what they're about and as a result are really awesome to the fans.
Also the thing to do after you work through that list is to lookup the bands you liked best on wiki and see who their influences are and listen to them. Then just keep doing that.
I tottaly know what you mean. I think after "ride the lightning" everything after it was total shit. Im definetly going to do that though .my favorite so far is Judas Priest though.
