I don't recommend reading SICP until further down along the road when you've got a fair grasp of programming in general since it teaches Scheme (which is a LISP dialect) and that tends to be a little rough on rudimentary programmers.
If you want to do it more conventionally, read Code Craft daily. Write programs as frequently as you can. Try enrolling yourself into some Computer Science courses. Learn C. Complete SICP. Learn Assembly language.
In that order.
