Need help with poetry assignment

I am terrible at writing poetry, and we have a 50 line poem due soon.

i was wondering what tips you can give someone to write a long poem that cant really write a poem in the first place.

What's it about?
Does it have to be in a specific format?
I.E. Iambic pentameter ect.

it can be any format
it can also be about anything you want, i only have like 10 lines atm :/
i would write up something crappy real quick but were going to present these, so i want it to be decent.

i tried writing an emotional poem first because i thought it would be easier,
and i used the verse "your a canary, im a coal mine."
then i gave it to my friend and he instantly knew it was from a fall out boy song.

Doesn't sound toooooo bad. I mean 50 lines is a bit, but you could just right something free verse well.
