Google and Facebook aren't so private

Twitter has just taken a bold stand to protect its users' privacy. When the US Government demanded they turn over information about people affiliated with WikiLeaks, they told the people affected and now they have the chance to challenge the request. But Facebook and Google are refusing to do the same! Sign our petition demanding they -- and other major Internet companies -- adopt sensible privacy protections and stop turning over your personal data to anyone who asks.

Tell Google and Facebook that they need to follow Twitter's lead and protect our privacy. We're meeting with Google later THIS WEEK, and will deliver the petition then.

Already knew about this but... I doubt a petition is going to stop Facebook from not pissing the police off...

Political action starts with political awareness.
The group/lobbyists that are delivering the petition have been successful in other cases. If I did not have faith in it I would not have shared the petition part, just the info.
I don't necessarily believe that this one petition will change any thing but what it might yet inspire very well could. Such activity and voicing of opinion will help decide if in ten years current procedure is changed or remains. The reason the police don't want you alerted is because the accessing of private information in that manner is illegal and all evidence found that way gets dismissed in court when challenged.
