wont let me upload photos from my camera to my mac :/

i just took some pictures of my sandwich :O\
and whenever i plug in my camera nothing happens :/
do i have to do something to upload my pictures ;/

1.Buy Windows 7 install disc
2. Boot from the disc
3. Write over your Mac partition
4. Use Windows.

i have to use my dads mac :/
